Fiberglass / Stainless Steel Filter for Water Park Wave Pool Treating Equipments.
Sand Filter Water Treatment Equipment (also known as Quartz Sand Filter or Sand Filter) working principles:
Core Principle: Physical Filtration + Deep Retention
The sand filter water treatment equipment is a pressure filter that uses quartz sand as the filtration medium to remove suspended solids, colloids, and impurities from water through physical interception, adsorption, and sedimentation .

Operating Process (Three-Stage Cycle)
Stage One: Filtration Process (Forward Flow)
Water Distribution: Water to be treated enters from the top of the filter under pressure and is evenly distributed across the entire sand surface through the water distributor
Layer-by-Layer Retention: Water flows downward through the quartz sand filter bed, with impurities removed through the following mechanisms:
Mechanical Screening: The upper layer of coarse sand (0.8-1.2mm) intercepts large suspended particles (sand, algae, etc.)
Deep Interception: The middle layer of medium sand (0.5-0.8mm) removes smaller particles through inertial collision and interception
Adsorption and Sedimentation: The lower layer of fine sand (0.3-0.5mm) uses van der Waals forces to adsorb colloids and tiny particles
Clean Water Production: The filtered clean water is collected through the bottom collection system and discharged, with effluent turbidity reduced to <3 NTU
Stage Two: Backwashing Process
When the accumulated impurities in the filter layer increase, and the pressure differential between inlet and outlet reaches 0.05-0.08MPa or the operating cycle ends, the system automatically initiates backwashing:
Reverse Flow: Clean water enters from the bottom and flows upward in reverse through the filter bed
Filter Bed Expansion: The reverse water flow expands the sand layer by 40-50%, causing sand particles to rub against each other
Impurity Stripping: The attached impurities are stripped away and discharged from the top outlet with the rising water flow.

Stage Three: Forward Rinse Recovery
After backwashing, a brief forward rinse is performed to compact the filter bed, and after 2-5 minutes, it is put back into filtration operation
Key Design Parameters
| Parameter | Typical Value |
| Filtration Rate | 8-15 m/h (15-20 m/h commonly used for swimming pools) |
| Filter Layer Thickness | Single layer ≥700mm, multi-layer 1.2-1.5m |
| Quartz Sand Particle Size | 0.3-1.2mm (graded in layers) |
| Working Pressure | ≤0.6MPa |
| Backwash Intensity | 4-15 L/(s·m²) |
| Operating Cycle | 2-7 days (depending on water quality) |
Structural Components
Filter Tank: Usually made of fiberglass, carbon steel with anti-corrosion coating, or stainless steel
Multiport Valve (Sand Filter Head): Controls switching between filtration, backwashing, and drainage functions
Filter Media Layer: Mainly quartz sand, but can also be combined with multi-layer media such as anthracite and activated carbon
Water Distribution/Collection System: Ensures even water distribution and collection
Main Application Fields
Swimming Pool Recirculating Water Filtration (most common): Removal of suspended solids, sebum, and microorganisms from pool water
Industrial Water Treatment: Boiler feedwater and cooling circulating water pretreatment
Drinking Water Purification: Municipal water plants and rural water improvement projects
Membrane System Pretreatment: Protection of Reverse Osmosis (RO) and Ultrafiltration (UF) membranes from pollution
Agricultural Irrigation: Filtration of river and lake water to prevent drip irrigation emitter clogging
Technical Advantages
✅ Economical and Durable: Low cost of quartz sand with long service life
✅ Simple Operation: No complex chemical agents required, purely physical process
✅ Large Processing Capacity: Suitable for high-flow water treatment scenarios
✅ Easy Maintenance: Only requires periodic backwashing and media replacement (usually every 1-3 years)
Sand filtration is the most fundamental and widely applied pretreatment technology in the water treatment field, achieving continuous and stable operation through the periodic cycle of "filtration-backwashing"
